Description:
Italy's entry into the Second World War in June 1940 jeopardised Britain's position in the Mediterranean and endangered both oil supplies from the Middle East and lines of communication Eastward through the Suez Canal. By February 1941 the Allies had crushed the Italians; however the resulting euphoria was short-lived; The German Afrika Corps entered the theatre of the desert war.
