Amrutha is the story of a child who finds out that she has been adopted. Desperate to find her real parents she sets out to the jungles of Srilanka accompanied by her adoptive parents Srinivas (Madhavan) and Indira (Simran). Eventually, they discover Shyamala (Nandita Das), who explains that she gave up Amrutha (Keerthana), her daughter to fight for the separatist cause.
